Life Lately

We've been busy bees around this house lately enjoying all things CHRISTmas. S and Lyla have had so much fun playing with each other outside, making cookies, playing dress ups and riding bikes. We've all been enjoying lots and lots of CHRISTmas cookies, lights,  and fun CHRISTmas songs on the radio. There is nothing like this season.

As we enter December, we're looking for ways to teach our kiddos about Jesus' birth and what a blessing it is to our faith and our salvation. It's challenging though as the media pushes Santa, Rudolph and Frosty. Its challenging to get them excited about Baby Jesus when the world tells them about a Santa who brings them lots of presents.

We're hoping to shift things to a Christ centered CHRISTmas by baking Jesus a birthday cake, and keeping CHRISTmas songs to mostly Christian CHRISTmas songs. We'll also be attending a CHRISTmas pageant at Popi and Mimi's church to tell us the story of Jesus' birth.

Anyone out there have some fun things they are doing to make this CHRISTmas all about Jesus?

A new addition to our family.

No, no, no...

I'm not preggo
and
we didn't get another animal (thank goodness!)

But we Tyler built a playhouse, that started out as a stage..that's a different story! Tyler and I love to do projects... Ha, but seriously, I'm usually the one itching to paint or build or sew but he came up with this one all on his own. I couldn't be more proud of him too. He worked hard on this baby and he spent many, many afternoons building, rebuilding, ripping apart and putting together this little house.

And not to get all "Of the Earth Ashley" on you (as Tyler teases me about) but most all of the playhouse was built with recycled wood from Tyler's parents new house being built. Pretty cool, huh?

Was it worth it?

Well let's just say it is the only thing the girls want to do in our backyard now. We've had
Tea parties
Sleepy times
And visits from the space monster (that's me)-- such a loving nickname, right?

Good memories and this little place has only been open for business less than a month.

In progress...

Hello blog...

Hello blog... It looks as if I've abandoned you for quite some time. You've just been a little lower on my list of priorities lately. We have had so much change in our lives since I last posted.

New city.
New house.
New friends.
New church.
New rotations.
New baby cousin (coming soon!)
Enjoying old family for the first time in a loooong time.

We are so thankful for the blessings that God has so richly poured upon our little lives. To catch you up to speed would take much longer than what I'm sure you want to read, but these past months will surely be talked about in future posts.

Now I've just made you curious ;)

So let's act as if I've been here all along, shall we?

Halloween.

Did not think we would ever be celebrating this holiday until we heard of the Fall Fest at Trinity Bible (our new church- love). It ended up being such a blast for the kiddos, and this Mama was scrambling
last
minute
for some sort of costume to stick these little angels in...

Introducing,

Ballerina Princess Lyla and Ladybug Adah

Lyla loved her costume and had been in character for two days prior to the Fest. She wore her costume and listened to "ballerina" music and she danced all around the house. Did I mention how my little Lyla has turned into a total girly girl. Not prissy... But she loves all things girly.

And pink.
And purple.
And sparkly.

And it's not always easy to shepherd her little heart to not find all value in what the eyes see. I should remind myself the same thing...

Glad to be back, blog.

Little Beauty

For anyone who has a girl toddler, you can identify...
My little Lyla loves girly stuff.
She loves dress ups,
she loves my makeup,
she loves dresses, and
she loves me to do her hair.

Little does she know now,
but she is growing up in a world that will put a HUGE emphasis on her looks.
The world will tell her beauty is skinny,
beauty is unblemished,
beauty is sexy
beauty is getting what you want.

But that's not what God says beauty is.
God says a woman is beautiful BECAUSE
she has a pure heart (1 Samuel 16:7),
she is submissive (1 Peter 3:5),
and she has a gentle and quiet spirit.
The Bible says worldy beauty is fleeting (Proverbs 31:30)

"The Lord doesn’t see things the way you see them.
People judge by outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”
1 Samuel 16:7

"For this is the way the holy women of the past
who put their hope in God used to make themselves beautiful.
They were submissive to their own husbands"
1 Peter 3:5

"Instead, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God's sight." 1 Peter 3:4

"Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting: but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised."
Proverbs 31:30

So, Little Lyla,
God thinks you are beautiful because of
your precious heart.
Don't let the world tell you otherwise :)

Day that Jesus Saved

We had a wonderfully reflective time this Easter. Unlike most other Easters, we spent this one with just our little family- me, Tyler, Lyla, and Adah.

Here's a few pictures from our Easter egg hunt, filled with candy hearts so Lyla remembered how much Jesus loved her on this special day.

Jesus saved! Happy Easter!

A Rainy Afternoon

Today has been gray....
It's not windy, not sunny, not bright, not hot. I love days like these. And to top it all off, right now, it has just begun to rain. To me, there's not a lot much more peaceful and beautiful than a gray, rainy day.

Both my little angels are down for a nap and this is where you fit in :)

We've been playing with playdough, reading books and eating kale chips. If you want to get hooked on a really tasty, healthful snack bake up some kale chips! I get a huge bag of kale at Walmart (already pre-cut and washed) and eat these little yummies all of the time.

I found a really neat magazine this morning called Thriving Family. It's all focused on Christian marriage and parenting. The best thing about it, is it's free. I ordered my subscription and I'll let you know what I think about it once I read it...

What else is new? Well, little Adah Tada is getting her 3rd tooth. She's got two at the bottom and is now getting her side tooth up top. Same order as her big sissy. Both my girls got their little teefies really late. She's a tough girl though. I really haven't noticed her having a hard time as they are coming in.

Boy, I love those little girlies.
They are at such a fun age right now because they have just started really interacting with each other. Adah is so interested in
EVERYTHING
Lyla is doing and Lyla adores that Adah gives her attention.
They are so precious together.
I hope they can always have a wonderful sister bond.

Hope you're enjoying your rainy, cloudy day as much as I am :)

Each Moment is a Treasure

I stumbled across this video I made for Lyla a few months ago as I was uploading the video of Adah crawling. Tyler and I watched it together that night as my eyes teared up just thinking, Wow, how fast does time pass by?
What an absolute treasure it has been to be blessed with the gift of Lyla. I cannot tell you how many people in Lyla's lifetime have stopped me and Tyler at the store or at church or just passing us by and told us to treasure the moments with our precious children, because time passes you by before you even know. I know those are whispers from the Lord reminding us constantly that each moment with our children is purposeful and to be cherished as a wonderful blessing. I'm so thankful that he reminds me of this, so that when I look back and think, Wow, how fast does time pass by? I'll know in my heart that each second of our children's lives were treasured.

I'm so proud of my little Adah. Praise God for this healthy, strong little angel :)
