Life Lately

We've been busy bees around this house lately enjoying all things CHRISTmas. S and Lyla have had so much fun playing with each other outside, making cookies, playing dress ups and riding bikes. We've all been enjoying lots and lots of CHRISTmas cookies, lights,  and fun CHRISTmas songs on the radio. There is nothing like this season.

As we enter December, we're looking for ways to teach our kiddos about Jesus' birth and what a blessing it is to our faith and our salvation. It's challenging though as the media pushes Santa, Rudolph and Frosty. Its challenging to get them excited about Baby Jesus when the world tells them about a Santa who brings them lots of presents.

We're hoping to shift things to a Christ centered CHRISTmas by baking Jesus a birthday cake, and keeping CHRISTmas songs to mostly Christian CHRISTmas songs. We'll also be attending a CHRISTmas pageant at Popi and Mimi's church to tell us the story of Jesus' birth.

Anyone out there have some fun things they are doing to make this CHRISTmas all about Jesus?

Face to Face

"For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known."
1 Corinthians 13:12

I was thinking this morning...
Do I realize that I will actually get to see THE living God face to face?

Do you realize this yourself? Go with me here a moment.

When I'm sitting down with the Lord of Lords and the King of Kings,
I want Him to look at me and talk to me like a longtime friend.

I desire this more than anything.

I don't want life to pass me by and God to look at me and say,
"You know I loved you all these years, but you never even knew I was right there with you."

I know he desires a relationship with each one of us so badly and if we could only realize that
he's not the God off in the distance,
but the God who chose our bodies to dwell in as
His temple.

"Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in your midst?"
1 Corinthians 3:16

I want God to call me a dear friend when we meet face to face
and not merely an acquaintance when things in life get tough.

I'm choosing to enjoy the wonders of knowing God now. What about you?

An Awakening

Do you believe what you say you believe?

I would say it's taken me up until this point in my life to truly understand the magnitude of that question.

I grew up in a wonderful, Christian home. All of my life, I was instilled the knowledge of
Christian values,
of Jesus,
of Christian living.
I grew up in the Christian church all of my life.

But until now, my soul and my mind didn't truly accept what I had knowledge to be true.
In the past year, I can say with certainty that my soul has been awakened.

God reached his forgiving hand out to me, and allowed my heart to taste one more chance of knowing Him and His glory. I can't tell you how many opportunities God has probably reached out to me but in my self-centeredness, I never acknowledged Him as LORD OF ALL.

He's forgiven me of a shameful past that wasn't repented of until recently, and now
I
live
 FREE.

Each day, I'm learning more and more about
truly dying to myself and
allowing Jesus to be the One who lives in this empty vessel.

What holds me back from letting the Holy Spirit completely envelop my life?
What others think of me.
Security.
Fear.

What keeps drawing me back?
THE HOLY SPIRIT.
Having faith that life HAS to bigger that what I can see.
The Lord's power I've felt in even just the past few months.

 What's holding you back?
What would it cost for you and me to give our lives up for the Savior who gave his very life for
 every
 single
one
of our sins?

Making Easter More than an Easter Bunny

As young parents, Tyler and I find ourselves having to define so many parts of our lives that we just used to wing. Now that I'm a mother to two children, not only am I responsible for myself, but now responsible for my children and how I'm raising them.

I'm always looking for ways to be intentional about teaching my kiddos about the Lord and also hope that unintentionally they see the Lord through the reflection of my life. As Easter is approaching, I find myself hitting that rock in the road, asking myself, "How should we celebrate Easter in a way that Jesus is who is glorified?"

I have two kiddos under the age of 2.  It's obvious that their precious little minds cannot yet comprehend death or the sacrificial life Jesus lived. But they can understand when I tell them that Jesus loves them.

I've been searching through some ideas on Focus on the Family to turn Easter from what our world portrays it to be back to Jesus. This year, we're going to be filling our Easter eggs with hearts, because Jesus loves us so much. I also got the girls a really awesome movie, The Lion of Judah to watch as a family this Easter. It's the story of Jesus and how he saved the world, but all told in a story about animals.

I'm also rattling my brain on some creative ideas to make this Easter all about Jesus. As they come to me, I'll post :)

Tyler and I are so very blessed to have the opportunity to parent two little girls in hopes that they will one day choose to believe in our precious Savior, Jesus. Do ya'll have any neat ideas you've heard of or done yourself in celebrating a Christ filled Easter?

I Wonder

I Wonder by Leeland
At the stars in the night, I wonder
At Your lightning in the sky, I shudder
Your glory is a blanket that covers
Every living thing

And it feels like there’s not enough praise inside of me
With all these words, all my heart can sing is holy
YOU ARE HOLY

Jesus Christ
You bled Your love, laid down Yourself
And gave me life
In naked shame You hung and You were lifted high
Here I lay in awe and wonder

I am afraid
For no one’s ever sacrificed and loved me this way

So on my face I fall under Your heavy grace
Here I lay in awe and wonder
And I wonder...

I’m in awe at the majesty of who You are
Your love is a seal burnt inside my heart
All of the day I want to be where You are
Holy Father

And it feels like there’s not enough praise inside of me
With all these words, all my heart can sing is holy
YOU ARE HOLY

Jesus Christ
You bled Your love, laid down Yourself
And gave me life
In naked shame You hung and You were lifted high
Here I lay in awe and wonder

I am afraid
For no one’s ever sacrificed and loved me this way

So on my face I fall under Your heavy grace
Here I lay in awe and wonder
And I wonder...

Jesus Christ
You bled Your love, laid down Yourself
And gave me life
In naked shame You hung and You were lifted high
Here I lay in awe and wonder
And I wonder...
And I wonder...

Are you the chaff?

We've been studying Psalms 1 at our home church, Mobberly Baptist out here in Longview. Let me tell you that we LOOOOOVE our church. We feel so blessed by the Lord for giving us a church that we are constantly at a state of growing and a state of convicted correction.

"Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers
But his delight is in the law of the Lord and on his law he meditates day and night
He is like the tree planted by the streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither.
Whatever he does prospers.
Not so the wicked!
They are like chaff that the wind blows away.
Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgement, nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous.
For the Lord watches over the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish."
Psalm 1

For our purposes, this week, we focused on verse 4, digging into who we believe the wicked to be. Could I offer this point of view to you that perhaps the wicked isn't the atheist, the child abuser, the felon....etc., but instead the wicked is the UNGODLY. The UNGODLY being the person who attends church, who prays before they eat, who doesn't cuss...a person who is RELIGIOUS. This person's spirituality is purely based on their religious actions, and not of a personal and sincere relationship with God. Whew! Is that convicting or what?! I think we can all take a moment to study our spiritual lives to make sure we're not getting caught up in the actions of Christianity rather than the ultimate relationship with our Creator.

If you are not spending time in the Word DAILY, if you are not feeling the Holy Spirit's guidance in your life, I have to question if you have a sincere relationship with God. We MUST be feeding on the Word, so that we become a "tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither." Friends, for the sake our our spiritual destiny, take a look at your life and examine it, for we don't want to fooled by Satan. We don't want to think that getting caught up in the ACTS of Christianity is what saves because without our relationship with God, our acts are absolutely meaningless. They become a show that we're either putting on for others or putting on for ourselves.

Guys, I speak this to you in the ultimate sincerity because I know in my heart that it wasn't long ago that I was this wicked person. I was the person who knew the right religious things to say, who attended church on Sundays, who prayed occasionally, who at more times than not, turned my nose up at the sinful act of others. I was self righteous. I thought that my actions were the thing that would save me. I can't tell you how many times I wondered at night if I were saved or not. I was the person who asked Jesus to come into my heart multiple times so that I knew I had "sealed the deal." But I have to tell you, that until I surrendered my life to Jesus, until I MADE the effort to spend time with the Lord on a DAILY basis, until my heart was opened and my ears were softened, until I was ready to GIVE my time to the Lord as an offering because each day of life given is a gift in of itself from the Father, until I stopped saying, "I should" and instead, began DOING what I knew to be true, my life has truly changed. Like night and day change, Friend. I don't wonder anymore if I'll truly be able to live an eternity in Heaven. I don't wonder anymore if the Lord is really there. When I gave myself to the Lord, and began a relationship with Him through reading his Word, I FEEL God. I FEEL His presence.

I can't wait to tell you what God is teaching me. I'm so happy that through this medium, we are learning about our Creator together. If you'd like to watch our sermon this week, I've posted the link below. It's absolutely convicting, in the truest ways.

I love you all and I care so much about your eternity. And ultimately, Friend, it's your choice. You can stop saying, "I should do..." and just start DOING it. I am a living testimony to you, that God is pursuing you. He doesn't give up on you. He wants you if you've never accepted Him and He wants you back if you've left Him. He loves you so very much.

Are you the chaff?

Consumption of Mind- Health

Does anyone else struggle with balancing a healthy lifestyle? God knows I struggle with this, and to be honest, almost every woman I've ever met has, in some way or another, made their struggle known to me as well. For me, it's finding that balance between obsession and making healthy choices that constantly has me in limbo. I ran into these videos on youtube, by God's perfect will. He knows what I needed to hear, and I'm sure they will bless you as well :)

As women, let's be free from the bondage of our minds by making healthy choices and loving our "true selves."

The Real Christmas

I am a person who loooooves the Christmas season.

I love Christmas songs playing on the radio
I love to see a gleaming tree in my living room
I love going on car rides looking at everyone's Christmas lights
I love decorating Christmas cookies
yatta yatta yatta

But this Christmas season feels different. God has laid on Tyler and my heart to teach our children something that the world just can't give them, and that's Jesus. That's the birth of Jesus, the birth of God's one and only Son, born to save the world from our sins so that one magnificent day, we can live with our Father for ever and ever. Wow! What a glorious day it will be to celebrate the birth of a Savior. Tyler and I have dedicated ourselves to teaching our kiddos that Christmas means Jesus's birthday. Nothing else....no Santa, no elfs, no reindeer.

My hope is that you don't view us as being a Scrooge, taking all the joy and fun out of Christmas for a child. We just believe that how much more joy and fun can we have in celebrating the birth of our King, rather than ficticious characters.

I believe that Satan constantly tries to take whatever portion of God's that he possibly can. He takes the image of the rainbow (a covenant symbol that God places in the sky to remind us that he will never flood the earth again) and he uses it to symbolize gayness. He takes the holy celebration of Jesus' birth, and covers it by celebrating Santa Clause. He constantly uses the secular to attempt to mask the Lord's glory. I know this decision might not be for everyone, but for me and Tyler, we have to respond to what the Lord is putting on our hearts.

I'm praying that whoever reads this, remembers that every portion of this time is in celebration of Jesus' birth. His birth is the real Christmas. Let's all celebrate how awesome this time is!!!

Born unto us a child is born. Born unto us a child is born. Unto us, a child is given, unto us a child is given. And his name shall be called
Wonderful
Counselor
The Mighty God
Amazing Father
The Prince of peace

Merry Christmas and glory to the Father that He sent us the most precious gift of all, his Son. Thank you, Father.

A New Purpose

God has been doing some serious work on my heart lately. He's teaching me and convicting me on the areas of my life that are not focused on Him or even pleasing to Him. As a stay at home mom, my circle of influence is smaller than some. Most of my days are spent at home, nurturing two wonderful little girls. However, God has placed certain people in my life who have been kind enough to tell me what an encouragement me blogging at Keeping Up with the Kloven's has been to them. I've struggled with blogging though. I've found that it's very hard for me to dedicate myself into writing and focusing on my family with the occasional focus on the Heavenly Father.

I've felt the conviction to continue blogging, as it makes my circle of influence much greater, reaching much more than what I come in contact with on a daily basis. I've wrestled with this idea in my heart for a long time because I feel so inadequate to speak about the Lord as if I'm some sort of teacher, scholar, perfect person (whatever you have it.) I am none of these things, just an ordinary woman who is responding to God who so graciously has reached out to me and who is now pushing me for more. Thank you, Father. This blog, A Mind on Things Above will be just that of Colossians 3:2..."Set your mind on things above, not on earthly things."

I know many of you enjoy reading about and seeing our family. A Mind on Things Above will be about our family or about me and things the Lord is working on in me. However, the focus will always be upon my gracious and Holy Father.

He is the only thing I can find purpose in. I hope that you will be encouraged by this place. I hope that you might find others to share this blog with so more may come to know the Creator of all. Let's all learn and grow together. The Son is coming very soon.
